Denmark’s clean-tech future, as seen from the director’s chair
“If someone was to ask me: ‘Can Vestjysk Stålteknik A/S (West Jutland Steel Technology) become the world’s largest renewable energy company?’ Well, I’d answer that it is just as likely as Nokia, which originally produced rubber boots, becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones. It is only a question of will. And about politically going after what one thinks is fundamentally right for a society.”
That’s the simple recipe for success, according to the CEO of the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, Vestjysk Stålteknik A/S, alias Vestas. Ditlev Engel is the world famous windmill boss, and he freely admits that there “isn’t much of a global brand about Vestjysk Stålteknik”. He mentions Vestas’ maiden name in order to underline that every business can choose to take the green route if it wishes to. “It just takes the will to focus on the fundamental skills you have within your business in green opportunities, together, of course, with the right framework and conditions,” believes Engel.
