Tax reduction is not a political trump card
Denmark has world record taxation levels. As much as 72 per cent of the last earned kroner go to taxes if you count both direct and indirect taxes such as VAT and green taxes. But even though tax relief and reforms are high on both the politicians’ and the media’s agenda, it is apparently not a subject that particularly occupies Danish voters. They are happy to pay tax in return for receiving welfare services such as health, child care, education and care for the elderly. These are the main conclusions of a comprehensive research of voter opinion about tax undertaken by Monday Morning and the research organizations behind the Danish Election Reseach Group.
